Child Trafficking is a problem affecting nearly 21 million children worldwide. It is when any person, whether it be men, women, children is forced into any form of exploitive position for money. Basically slavery is no different to modern day slavery. There are many ways someone can be exploited, like forced labour, prostitution, domestic servitude, and child soldiers. There are many reasons someone may be vulnerable to trafficking, like lack of education, lack of employment opportunities, discrimination and social isolation, and lack of protection by adults or laws. It doesn't just happen in rural communities or poor communities, it can happen to anyone in any country and in any industry Trafficking is the 2nd largest source of illegal income in the world after illegal drug trading. Is is an estimated US$150 billion industry. Trafficking happens because it is a high profit, low risk offence. Not many people get convicted for child trafficking. People often do not come forward about being trafficked and in a lot of situations there are different offenders and it is hard to find the real culprit. Many people's lives have changed forever after being victim of child trafficking. Don't let it happen. Do what you can to help. |
